Magazines: GQ - Audience & Industry

GQ - Audience & Industries blog tasks

Audience

1.) The media kit describes GQ as a flagship of men's fashion and style in Britain, also claiming being progressive and cutting edge.

2.) It suggests that masculinity is evolving and that men's fashion has moved to the centre of the global pop-culture conversation, "GQ's authority has never been broader or stronger".

3.) The magazine media kit claims to spend £7.7k annually on fashion which implies that its audience is also able to spend the same amount of money, along with its £1.2k average annual spending on beauty which just continues to emphasis the point made previously.

4.) The special editions that GQ run suggest that its audience is open to changes instead of a tight run programming or schedule or type of media released.

5.) The video and social series section suggests that magazine audiences are still changing since media forms like magazines are evolving from traditional like paper press to more digital for our current age like through websites and apps.

Media Magazine feature: GQ

1.) An element that goes into choosing a cover star for GQ is making sure that they have been a "hook" within the media during the past two months to ensure their relevancy.

2.) Magazines are constructed to serve the target audience by building on current interests in certain things, emphasising on the "hook" idea.

3.) The article suggests that GQ's advertisers and sponsorships are sometimes done in order to build on a persons career to improve and widen their audiences and that suggests that they are highly influential and emphasises on the fact that an average GQ reader has a high disposable income.

4.) "GQ hype" is a premium digital first weekly content media form and it reflects the impact of digital media onto traditional print media by their ability to evolve from traditional print forms to digital to comply to it's current audience.

5.) The article says that additional revenue streams for print media magazines like GQ comes from things like branded content studios, affiliated marketing, subscriptions, etc.

FIPP feature on Condé Nast diversifying into video and streaming content

1.) Condé Nast is moving away from traditional print products by transitioning into more digital based media, things like websites, apps and social media in particular.

2.) One example of Condé Nast’s tradition into streaming content is through their YouTube channel, a popular form of social media.

3.) The article suggests that modern media audiences want

GQ website, video and social media content
1.) The website maintains the GQ's magazine covers identity and aesthetic by its sleek and minimal design, its editorial design being a direct reflection of what the brand stands for and a mirror to what its audience/readers look like.

2.) The websites top menu consists of the same graphic design, with minimal, sleek modern designs which is a typical house convention of the brand which is also depicted through their magazine covers.

3.) GQ's Instagram feed consists of magazine covers and photoshoots of cover stars, as well as interviews with people of interest (like celebrities) which depicts their professional yet lenient choice of presentation.

4.) GQ's social media content is designed to serve as an advertisement for the physical print magazines, not only advertising a product but also an experience that comes with the physical print product.

5.) I do believe that GQ is successful in establishing their brand online within the digital era despite the decline in interest within physical print media. Their online depiction of themselves is a direct reflection of their physical print media through their repetition of their house graphic design which they are known for. I do also think that eventually interest in physical print form magazines will completely diminish where digital platforms like websites will take over.
