Advertising & Marketing assessment: Learner response
1.) Mark out of 15 for Media Language: 10/15
Estimated A Level Coursework grade: BWWW: Lea, this is a good piece of production. You demonstrate good application of knowledge and understanding of media language through your effective photography, colour scheme and cover lines which demonstrate a combination of elements to communicate clear meanings throughout the product. What I most enjoy is the choice of magazine you have tried to recreate (very original!) The cover lines you have written are also in-line with original cover lines used by National Geographic so well done on completing your planning and research.
EBI: Your evaluative comments are honest and reflective about the font choice and there’s not much you can really do to get the exact font match but well done for getting it as close as possible. I would say the masthead could have been slightly larger to then contrast the other cover lines. The other thing I would suggest is perhaps making the other cover lines the same size also making them about other issues rather than all being about birds. Finally, the planning and research (written work on the blog) is rather vague and lacking depth you will need to develop this further for your real coursework to ensure you receive a top grade.
2.) Regarding the first question I should have only linked the advertisement to relevant topics and not have went off guard. I could have also included the idea that the woman grasping onto the males tie could be considered to be phallic imagery. For the second question I could have also includes the imagery of gun between the males legs to connote to a violent image of phallic ideals. For the final question I could have specified particular scenes within the actual advert instead of briefly referring to the advert as a whole.
3.) Three media terminologies that I could have referenced for the first question are the brand logo and its connotations behind it, the promise of an irresistible appeal and the stereotypical ideals of womens beauty that are enforced.
