MIGRAIN: Genre

 TASK 1:

MEDIA FACTSHEET 3:

1.) Codes and conventions are the given example of visual iconographies. They are important because they simplify complex and usually hard to understand topics with icons, making it easier for an audience to interpret.

2.) The example of importance of narrative is newspaper and tv and how easy it is to identify genre by details, language options, etc.

3.) Period/Country, director/star, technical process, style, series, audience.

4.) Genre is used by an audience since it allows them to use prior knowledge to convey if they'll like a piece of media or not. It also allows audiences to compare and reject a genre.

5.) Genre is used by producers in production, attracting audiences and marketing texts.

1.) X-men movies, The Avengers, Spiderman (since 2000), Guardian of the Galaxies, Agents of Shield (series)

2.) Schatz'z theory can be used for the superhero genre since it is dependent on the culture and background of the audience, different background knowledge would result in a different understanding of the movie.

3.) The movie included things like gun fights and hiding on runaway trains, all things that would usually be associated with the action genre.

4.) The subject matter is coming of age crime action, the basic theme is class conflict.

MODE OF ADRESS:

1.) I think that this film has a target audience of ages ranges from 15 and onwards (due to the violence of the film) but I think that the actual plot would be interesting for all to enjoy.

2.) I think the director has assumed that the audience is a western one and also that they have knowledge of the USA in the 60's.

3.) I think the film assumes that your interests aline with the genre or topics in the movie like rivalry gangs, greasers, etc.

RELATIONSHIPS TO OTHER TEXTS:

1.) The movie itself is a reference to the book it's based on by S.E Hinton.
