MIGRAIN: Audience Theory 2 - Effects Debate

1.) a. Yes I play/watch violent media. No I am not violent in real life.

b. Yes, when I was 7 years old I saw a Nintendo advert and was interested for it and got it for Christmas.

c. I recently watched a documentary about how Native American land was stolen from the Natives and I feel even stronger for it than I did before.

2.) Diffusion Theory, Direct Effects Theory, Indirect Effects Theory, The Pluralist Theory.

3.) An example of the hypodermic needle theory is the theory that Marliyn Manson was in charge of the Columbine school shootings.

4.) The Columbine school shooting in 1999 was a shooting where 13 students/staff were killed and 23 were wounded. The media managed to link the shooting back to singer Marylin Manson, since the shooters were wearing his merch.

5.) The sheet implies that the lyrics of Marylin Manson's songs were influencing the violent behaviour of the shooters.

6.) Gurbers theory implies that media does not affect behaviour but attitude. That through repeated attitudes or ideas these ideals will become normalised and naturalised.

7.) The sheet implies that violence in action movies could be replicated through mirroring by a younger audience.

8.) The direct effect theory uses a model of a passive audience meaning the theory doesn't apply to all members of the audience and is therefore incorrect.

9.) "Love Thy Neighbour" is considered controversial today due to its racist and offensive tones that may have been previously societal accepted but are not however accepted today.

10.) Examples of Hall's theory are 'The Sun' and 'The Guardian', implying that they both share the same news differently.
