MIGRAIN: Audience Classification

PART 1:

1.) Audience is defined as a general term for all the individual people who consume a piece of media.

2.) The infographic shows that Gen z in the age of covid-19 mainly (or largely than others) consumes online videos. However online TV/streaming is also very close in comparison to the rest.

3.) Media companies target their audiences during the digital age by controlling platforms, schedules and algorithms.

4.) PAMCO collects demographic information about its audience, NRS used to do the same thing.

5.) Demographics is collecting impersonal data about individuals and what they are consuming. Psychographics are considered to be a more subtle way of categorising media audiences.

6.) I've chosen Clay Shirky since their theory of "end of audience" says that we no longer can draw a line between media producers and the audience since there is so much interaction between audiences and medias they consume.

PART 2:

2.) By learning about psychographics I learned about the top main different groups of consumers: resigned (what I did), strugglers, mainstreamers, aspirers, succeeders, explorers and reformers. Young and Rubicon suggested that all consumers and audiences fit into one of these 7 groups. I personally think that if I had to categorise myself into one of the groups I would be in the explorer group.
